Well done on a particularly fine blog. I too got that "last straw" feeling after the latest horrendous reports from the US. And thanks also for tipping the story of Sean Seddon, an almost heartbreakingly poignant parable for our time.
It's time for the RC church to start saying some big sorries to a lot of people, and start handing out cash bigtime. They should also appoint a sort of Simon Wiesenthal character (let's call him a latterday cardinal Richlieu, only this time he's a good terminator) to go after these frocked criminals and take them down, one at a time..

The idea of Ratso going himself? A bit far fetched, more's the pity. If he went, they might as well all of them go home. And there's much too much power at stake for them to do that...

I know of the good programmes you mention, of course - and I watch TV myself - though not quite as avidly as you perhaps Steve.

I still retain the view that blogging on TV is comparatively trivial - blogging on the content of the news or enthusiam for truths and wonderment raised to the attention in a TV programme is quite a different thing.
Most TV and I mean 90% or more, does not fall into this bracket.

You do not mention your view of Candleford - the costume candy in question. Is it not tongue-curlingly clichéd?

I think you're being a bit hard on TV (though that is your way) as it is in fact one of the greatest social, educational and cultural aids ever invented. If you want some examples from America, may I cite, the Sopranos, The Wire and its successor Madmen. Homegrown examples might include (from a more achaic era admittedly) Tinker,Tailor, Soldier, Spy, The Singing Detective and Boys from the Blackstuff. If you want modern, try Charlie Brooker's screen wipe and Russell Howard's Good News. True, there's lots of crap on TV (absolutely anything with Simon Cowell- you got that one right, honey), but TV has given me immense pleasure over the years, even if I have on countless occasions been forced to admit that "there's nothing on!"
Bottom line: bury me on my sofa, with my slippers on, and with my remote in my hand.

Peter Greenaway. Well, yes. I too find his filmic offerings execrable, and I find his latest pronouncement sickening- what is it with these life-deniers and their loathsome self indulgent attitudes to the greatest gift in the Universe- life itself? I'm not saying that the preservation of life is an absolute, but to talk about throwing it away many years hence, it's just crap. Like you, Pat, I wonder if it will actually happen, though if it does I for one will not be doing any frieving, if I'm still around that is.
